Summer weather and barbeque go hand-in-hand in Texas. Nothing beats a nice day outside with great company while enjoying some of the best food Texas has to offer.
As Texans, we’re sticklers when it comes to good authentic BBQ, so here are some of the local favorite BBQ spots around San Antonio.
225 Urban SmokeĀ
225 Urban Smoke mixes the best of Texas BBQ with some Mississippi flare. A small spot with tons of flavor. An establishment for families by families.
The Big Bib BBQ
The Big Bib opened its doors in 2000 to serve up some authentic Texas BBQ. In the past 20 years they opened new locations across San Antonio and began catering events. They have a nice spacious patio at their Austin Hwy location.
Dignowity Meats
Dignowity Meats on Houston Street is a fan favorite. They have some awesome food to be enjoyed on their patio. Dignowity Meats was even featured on Guy Fieri’s show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.
The Smoke Shack
Another restaurant that has been featured in Guy Fieri’s Diner, Drive-Ins and Dives. Smoke Shack serves up all the BBQ classics but they’re known for their Big Mac Daddy and The Big Dog.
B-Daddy’s BBQ
A great place for the family with plenty of room for the kids to run around at their Helotes location. B-Daddy’s is the perfect spot if you’re in the mood for just a small bite or if your family is ready to eat a horse. They also have a food truck on 1604 and Marbach.
The Pig Pen
Another perfect spot for the family. The Pig Pen offers the best of both Tex-Mex and BBQ. With their menu offering brisket nachos, tacos, and burgers. Don’t miss their Sunday brunch featuring a Southern buffet.
Two Bros BBQ Market
Opened in 2009, Two Bros BBQ has become a local favorite to eat some authentic Texas BBQ with a Texas beer in hand. They have won a few state and national awards, including Top 50 BBQ Joints in the World by Texas Monthly.
Augie’s Barbwired Smokehouse
This place is hard to miss with the giant pig on its roof. They have three locations all over San Antonio. Augie’s has been preparing BBQ plates for over 20 years. They also serve breakfast Wednesday – Sunday.
B&B Smokehouse
B&B has been open for over thirty years and, the owner has been in the business of BBQ for over 50 years! They have great BBQ and a few ice-cold beers on tap, the perfect combo in the summer.
Rusty Bucket JawSmacking BBQ
What first started as a garage transformed into a local favorite BBQ joint. Rusty Bucket is a hidden gem with its menu filled with Texas BBQ classics. The name JawSmacking BBQ perfectly reflects their tasty food.
It was a difficult process to narrow down all of the favorite BBQ places of San Antonio. There are just so many great establishments that excel in creating some of the best BBQ in the country.
These are just some starting points for when you’re in the mood for some great food in a fun atmosphere. You could spend the summer finding your favorite spot; it might take you all summer to try them all.
